My
interest in the field of mental health began in 1984, when I worked as a volunteer
for the local branch of MIND, the National Association for Mental Health.
I obtained my Certificate in Counselling from the University of Hull in 1996,
and went on to graduate with my Diploma in Counselling from the University of
Lincolnshire and Humberside in 1997. I then attended the University of Nottingham
and graduated with my Master’s Degree in Counselling in 2000.
Since graduating with my counselling degree I have become involved in many different
counselling organisations, including the Humber Response Team and CRUSE.
In September 2001, following the tragic events in New York, I was honoured to
be selected for the CRUSE UK British Support Team, who at the request of the
British Foreign and Commonwealth Office flew out to New York to support British
families who had lost relatives in the World Trade Centre disaster.
